1 WEEK PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT
It is recommended to avoid over-the-counter aspirin, ibuprofen-based medications and supplements such as Omega-3/fish oils, Vitamin E, Garlic, St. John’s Wort and Ginkgo Biloba for 7 days prior to the procedure, as this may increase the risk of bleeding and bruising.
If you are prescribed blood thinning medication such as aspirin or an anticoagulant by your doctor for a cardiovascular condition, then please do not stop this unless advised to by your doctor.
48 HOURS PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT
If you use skin care containing retinoids (tretinoin/retinol), glycolic acid or products described as an 'anti-ageing' products, then stop using these 2 days prior to your appointment.
Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing or using hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
If you have booked in for a lip filler procedure, please ensure you have advised me if you are prone to cold sores. I can prescribe antivirals to prevent a flare and these should be started 48 hours prior to the procedure. If you have an active coldsore, your appointment will need to be postponed until this has resolved.
24 HOURS PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to the procedure to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding.
ONE THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT
Arriving at the clinic make up free and with a clean face is appreciated. We always throughly clean the area for injection with an antimicrobial cleanser, but removing layers of makeup takes time. This can cause your appointment to run over its allocated slot, delaying those of other patients.
POST PROCEDURE
A soothing antimicrobial aftercare fluid will be applied, which contains arnica and aloe vera to calm and restore the treated area.
Swelling and bruising may occur and can be treated by applying cool packs and using arnica
Avoid touching the treated area for at least 6 hours to reduce risk of infection and to avoid accidental spread of toxin
Aim to remain upright for 4 hours after any facial toxin treatments
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours to reduce risk of bruising/swelling
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours again to reduce bruising/swelling
Avoid wearing make up for at least 6 hours (unless mineral based)
If you have had a local anaesthetic cream applied or had a product containing anaesthetic administered, please exercise caution when eating or drinking until sensation has returned to normal.

RECOVERY PERIOD
You will be verbally given appropriate aftercare advice post appointment and normally this will also be emailed to you.

Facial toxin treatments will take 2 weeks for final results to be seen. During this time, you may notice some minor asymmetry as it settles. Please be reassured that this will even out. Complimentary review and top-up appointments are available between 2-4 weeks after initial appointments.

Dermal fillers generally take 2 weeks to settle, but in some cases can take up to 4. For 1-2 weeks after treatment, lumpiness of treated area is common as it integrates with your natural tissues.
If any lumps persist after this stage these can be massaged out.
If you have any questions regarding your aftercare, please get in touch and I will be able to advise and review as necessary.
PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS

Worsening redness or hotness around or near the injection site
Discharge from the injection site

Discoloured blotches near to or distant from injection site
Fever or chills

In rare cases, more serious complications can occur. At the appointment, you will be given my emergency contact details should any of the above symptoms be experienced. Although serious complications in aesthetics are rare, with my background as a medical professional, you can be reassured that you are in safe hands. I am able to prescribe any required medicines in case of emergency in the same way a doctor can, to ensure prompt treatment can be accessed and administered.
