DERMAL FILLER

Dermal fillers can be used restore volume loss in the face as a result of ageing, while also plumping out wrinkles and deep lines, to help restore a fuller and more youthful complexion.

They can also be used to improve definition in structural areas such as the cheeks, chin and jawline, to volumise and shape the lips and reduce perioral ('smoker lines').

What are they made of?

Hyaluronic Acid; this is a substance which occurs naturally in our bodies, keeping skin plump and hydrated. As we get older, decreasing levels of hyaluronic acid result in volume loss and contribute to the formation of lines and wrinkles.

When dermal filler is injected, hyaluronic acid attracts water, creating volume in the targeted area, replacing/creating structure and plumping out lines and wrinkles to help rejuvenate the skin.

Will it hurt?

As with any procedure involving needles, it can be a little uncomfortable, however it hurts much less than you may think! Many fillers contain a local anaesthetic which numb the area as the procedure progresses.

When will I see results?

You will see a difference in the treated area as soon as the procedure is complete. Swelling should resolve within the first 48 hours and it will take around 10-14 days for the product to settle, when the final the final results will be seen.

In some cases it may take up to 4 weeks for the filler to fully integrate with tissues.

How long will it last?

Results last between 6-24 months, depending on a variety of factors such as the area injected, the product used, the degree of correction, age, skin type and patient lifestyle.

Are there any risks/side-effects?

When carried out by a fully qualified medical professional, injection of dermal filler is completely safe. The most common side effects are bleeding, bruising and swelling.

Instructions on how to minimise the risk of side effects will be given to you with your aftercare advice.
